Chilliwack River, March 28th 2012
« on: March 29, 2012, 01:30:50 AM »

So after a quick business meeting this morning, I looked at the sky across the Fraser Valley and thought that I must take advantage of another dry day before this so-called rain storm rolls in. River dropped a bit more since Monday, but I thought the clarity was excellent. The water was green and not too clear. I was determined to land one with the "Little Shaver" after losing two on Monday. We went through the same run again and the float was buried pretty much at the exact same spot where my first hook-up was on Monday. This time I was not asleep at the wheel. The hook-set was perfect, the fight was quite long, but the fish had gone pretty far downstream and the dreadful pop occurred once again... >:( It did around half a dozen jumps at least, so that was entertaining. The rest of the evening was pretty uneventful with very few anglers around. :)

Rod, are those Little Shaver Spoons the ones that look almost like Dick Nites?  Hmm, interesting.  Could be imitating Salmon fry.  I'll be sure to put a couple in my hardware box the next time.

You really need to get some of the good Sickle siwash hooks I am using on my blades, you'll lose less fish I guaratee, let me know when you are out next and I'll give you some to try.

Hey Rodney, glad to hear of your succes. Maybe a helpful hint for when you are playing a fish. I was told once buy a masterful angler to always stay square to the fish when playing it. So basicaly you should be 90 degres to your fish. Some of the guys I fish with I think get a chuckle because I always get out of the water and move quickly to get square and stay square to the fish. I rarely lose fish this way. Also if you long line a fish directly below you all the advantage, through current leverage, goes to the fish. Just a thought.

Will do. :) And if I still lose fish, then we can conclude the angler may have something to do with it. ;D

Paulo, good idea. I usually can keep them on long enough to land them. I think yesterday I should have chased it a bit because it went fairly far downstream. I remained at the same spot most of the time because we were doing some filming, so I blame it on the camera... ;)
