Stave River, April 6th 2012: First day of spey casting
« on: April 06, 2012, 03:19:56 PM »

Headed out to the Stave to try for some cutties and maybe by chance a steelie.  No fish to be found and did not see anyone or hear of anyone having any luck.  I bought a spey rod and reel at the beginning of the week and got out to try my hand a something new.  I seemed to get wore as the day went on, if I had room to back cast I could send it flying out but if I tried a spey cast not much line was shooting >:(.  Oh well they say practice makes perfect so will head out next week and give it another try after watching a spey casting video and talking to my fishing shop guy.   Happy bunny day everyone.  Don't eat to much chocolate!  :o

Flyfished for cutties. Landed 8 fish in an hour  of fishing
all were hatchery marked but only kept 2 an 18 inch cuttie and a 16 inch for shorelunch.
Beautiful bunny day for me and no chocolate yet, only trout :)
btw, i was using a size 10 doc spratley and also a olive wolly bugger with brass tip head.

hope you get luck spey castin next time :)

Great report!  8 fish in an hour, a couple of bigguns (18", wow) ... thinking that might help thin the hordes on the CV soon ;D
