stealing salmon
« on: July 16, 2012, 09:25:10 PM »

On Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at approximately 3:30 AM the North Vancouver RCMP responded to a security alarm breach at the 'Capilano Salmon Hatchery' in North Vancouver. Upon attendance at 4500 Capilano Park Road, North Vancouver, police discovered close to the front gate, approximately 30 dead adult Coho salmon fish in a plastic wagon. It was apparent that culprits had broken into the hatchery and from one of the covered pools, removed and killed the fish. A large fishing net was found discarded near the fish.

Immediate patrols by officers and the Integrated Police Dog Service (PDS) were made in attempts to locate the suspects. After a short search three individuals were observed walking southbound on Capilano Road. As a result of the investigation, two adults from Vancouver and one from Chemanius, potentially face several charges. Charges include Break and Enter, Mischief, and offences under the Wildlife Act.

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking that anyone who may know anything about this incident is asked to call the North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS).
