Anyone fishing Scale Bar this Saturday?
« on: July 23, 2012, 05:55:45 PM »

Thinking of trying Scale Bar this Saturday for the first trip of the year when the size limit on spring is removed. Any report from people who have fished it lately? Is it accessible on foot? Also looking for potential fishing partners to share gas. I live minutes from Port Mann Bridge, at Mary Hill Bypass area of Port Coquitlam. Leave your email if you want to connect.

Heard it's doable and fishing okay.

Wouldn't mind hooking up a fishing partner/carpooling. I'm in Surrey, you?

I heard the water is high, but dropping fairly quick. Probably be casting onto pebbles...

PFD is a must; lots of drop offs and quicksand apparently, but guys are doing it.

Have a look at the Fraser River gauge at Hope (link is on the home page) - will give you an exact idea of where the water level is.

I'm also a rock hound!

to get a better idea on what is or may be still submerged , look at the station data, it will give topographical elevation take that number and and add the river height ( topo elevation at station + river height) find the elevation of the bar that you are planning to visit from a topo map or ?? subtract one from the other, positive means submerged.

or you can ask the local tackle shop, maybe.

For those of us who fished Scale over a decade, the only thing of concern during early season is that inside channel. During really high water, we had to wade across the inside channel to get to the main bar. Fishing from the main bar is not dangerous if you don't wade out to stand in the middle of the river. The lowest part of Scale is really calm water. Actually when Scales drops too much, I am off to other bar. Not interested to fish waist deep in wader in summer for long hours. That is only reserved for winter steelhead season, LOL. Saying that, most of the guys are wearing waders near the fishing border even if they are just wading out 5-10 ft from shore, making it necessary for other guys to wade out. Why? A long cast should cover the little distance of 10 ft.

There is actually more danger of getting a violation from CO for fishing beyond the fishing border than anything. During busy day, everyone tried to fish near the fishing border as the lower part of Scale will be too shallow (and you have to wade far out). So guys will take chances to fish above the boundary. The COs can come out quickly through the houses at the top, which you and I cannot access. We have to walk a mile (from parking) for a spring.  ;D

Hey guys, no debate on bb is intended. Ya, it has been done before. The mod will shut down a thread if it gets into hot debate. Why waste time?  :)
