so im gonna ask this question even though i think i alreayd know the answer

is the packaged roe u can buy from canadian tire crap? or will it work?

AND

if you all agree it doesnt work, which type of salmon roe should i cure and use for coho?
someone told me red spring is the best?

Read 44 times and not one reply. Okay, I'll bite. Is Canadian Tire roe crap ? I can't honestly say because I've never bought it. I do remember many, many years ago, 40 to be exact fishing the Capilano we used to buy the gas station roe and it was on big waxy block which we would cut up and use. We caught many fish with it too but of course that was a long time ago and there were larger runs.

As far as what type of salmon egg is preferred for fishing bait for me its always bigger is better. Spring roe or chum as well and don't think that it has to be a red spring because with the many available curing dyes the colour can be changed into - presto. When I first started curing my roe I actually used cherry jello for a couple years and believe it or not it slammed them. I always thought it was because of the sugar content, teee hee.

Canadian Tire is crap IMO. Save your money and pick up some roe from Berry's or Pacific Angler

Crap,cure your own, best way to go, get some fresh roe, cure with pautzky pink krill, and bit of borax after, I have tried many others, that is the easiest and has brought the most success for me. Chum, Spring, or even mature coho roe all works fine. It is hard to find good store bought roe.

Army n' Navy and Wholesale Sports in Langley sell decent roe. Pre-cured. Costs about $10 for 1/2lb though.
