Alta Lake Loch-Style Fly Fishing Competition - Sunday July 21, 2013
Competition #3 of the 2013 Summer Series

Competition Water: Alta Lake near Squamish, British Columbia (1˝ hour drive from Vancouver)

This venue offers some incredible/spectacular fishing for wild rainbows and cutthroat trout. The competition is open to fly fishers of all skill levels - no previous competition or loch-style fishing experience necessary, as I'll have plenty of spare drogues and thwart boards on hand, and will be happy answer any and all questions about this form of fly fishing.

Please mark this event on your calendar, and respond here, or email me at: toishis@uniserve.com to register for this event. I really want to encourage newcomers and fly fishers of all skill levels to come out and see what it's all about. This is competition, as with all of the Summer Series events, is designed to be a fun, informative, and social event - both on and off the water...

12. Competitors, while fishing, must remain seated, and may use a seat with a cushion of a maximum depth of ten centimetres, and back rests

We'll be using a draw system for this particular competition, which will see the team mates being split-up and fishing with 2 different competitors during the two, 3-hour sessions of this competition. This should make things a lot more interesting and allow competitors the opportunity to observe and learn from others. Parents and their children or spouses will have the option to fish together and forgo the draw if they wish to fish together in the same boat.

Most of the competitors will be making a day trip out of this, but some of us will be staying over night in Whistler with our wives, so why not plan to bring your wife or significant other along for the adventure and a little pampering as well. A nice dinner on Saturday night, and the guys go fishing while the wives go shopping in the Village the next day - what more could you ask for! There are also some less expensive options for accommodations that can be found in nearby town of Squamish, and camping at several of the nearby campgrounds.

For me, the quality of a trout is not measured in pounds and inches, but rather by the journey and circumstances that allowed our paths to cross...

Update:

I am extremely pleased to announce that Australian fly fishing and casting legend Peter Hayes will be participating at the Alta Lake Loch-Style Fly Fishing Competition! For those of you who may not know Peter, he is an International Federation of Fly Fishers Certified Master Casting Instructor and highly accomplished competitive fly fisher, having fished on Australia's National Fly Fishing Team numerous times.

Peter will be placed into the random draw just like the rest of us, so 2 lucky competitors will have the good fortune and opportunity to fish with and observe Peter in action for a 3-hour session in their boat!

Norm Godding was kind enough to persuade Peter to give us a free casting demonstration at the conclusion of the competition. This should be a very fun and informative event, so make sure that you're able to hang around afterwards for the rare opportunity to watch and learn from a true legend of our sport!

Here's alist of a few of Peter's past accomplishments:
Bronze medal winner 2000 World Fly Fishing Championships
Silver medal winner 1981 and1983 World Casting Championships
10 times Australian Fly Casting Champion of Champions
1998 Australian Fly Fishing Champion

For those who would like to, please check out Peter's web site at the following:
