Actually, until a couple of years ago fishing for pink and chum salmon were open year round even though your chance of catching them is best in the fall months. Because of the current chinook salmon low return situation, pink and chum salmon openings in the Tidal Fraser River now start on July 16th. Currently there is no fishing for salmon allowed in the Fraser River.

As for when you can catch them, usually starting in the last week of August is your best bet. The first two weeks of September are usually very good, then it starts tapering off in the third week of September. You may catch the odd ones in the second or third week of August, but poor water clarity and low amount of fish are your biggest factor on low catch rate.

Has anyone heard of any pink schools spotted up by vancouver island ? its only one month before they start to show here

I heard they have been picking up the odd pink around Sooke. Also heard the coho fishing is on fire there right now....

Caught a pink on the north arm yesterday morning using worms, totally unexpected as I wasn't targeting them, it snapped my 4lb mono a few feet from shore though
