Squamish River, August 6th 2013
« on: August 06, 2013, 12:23:18 PM »

Went for a couple of hours this morning. Clarity still sucks but fish are there. Saw few caught on the fly and several snagged & foul hooked (intentionally) on lures. Early mornings seem best as water rises slightly during the day and afternoons bringing more silt.

i snuck out this morning as well. caught 2, lost several;  however the bites where very strange, an hour of nothing, then 3 fish on in 3 casts, etc, then repeat. There are definitely fish in the river however it seems like it isn't thick with fish like it was during the last run. (as there are long periods where you don't see any fish surfacing)

was there last nite and I lost sight of my fly after it dropped 6" into the water. Squamish and Mam still affected by the glacial meltdown from all the high heat... more milky white than green. I could see the odd fish rise but many casts between hook ups.Managed 3 to the beach but released them as they were too mature to retain. Saw Mr.seal but he didn't hand around long, maybe indicative of the amount of fish moving through.

Spoke to a local who said pinks were in from mid July. Maybe the run is on the trending down for this season?
Furry Creek is a gong show. Never seen so many cars parked there, well over 40.

I had a similar experience on the 1st of Aug. Nothing for 1.5hrs then fished some eddie and got 2 on 3 casts on the retrieve. Nothing on the drift, but on the retrieve they smacked a big pink fly with some flash. Nice fish, but had to work hard for them.

Yes, similar experience this morning. Same conditions as yesterday. Had 4 bites on the fly, did not land a single one. Need to work on my technique  8)
Periods of fish showing and moving and then nothing. But they are in there, just harder to see with the poor visibility. I think, it is still fairly early in the run. People have caught pinks in the Mamquam for at least 2-3 weeks now. Fish spread out more in the Squamish as the river is still fairly high for this time of the year.
