Our vet has encouraged us to feed them salmon as they both have skin issues.  I quite often smoke my chum and any fish I kill do not go to waste and fyi my mutts also get indulge in coho, red spring etc.
Whos your Vet? Feeding salmon to the dogs is just wrong. My leftover salmon goes to family and friends and the entrails goes in the crab traps.

OMG!!!!! here we go again!!!! the post was about roe thieves and now it has morphed into whether or not feeding salmon to dogs is okay.  Do some research! Yes feeding salmon to dogs is fine as long as it is cooked. It is good for their skin as well as their digestive systems.  My leftover salmon goes to family and friends as well MY DOGS!

No kidding - searching the net takes ummmm seconds?

Salmon. A good source of omega 3 fatty acids, which are responsible for keeping your dog’s coat healthy and shiny, as well as supporting your dog’s immune system. Feed your dog cooked salmon, add salmon oil to her food bowl, or slip him some of your unwanted fish skins.

We had an old guy stole our spinner from our rod.

We were fishing with spinners, caught some fish.  Switched to fly and hang our rods behind with our spinners.  An older guy came and sat behind us as our spot was full.  We will often check behind make sure our rods did not walk away.  Time passed, old guy left.  Then we tried to go back to our spinners.  One of the weighted spinner was cut off from mainline.  And the old guy was the only one there besides us.

Whats wrong with feeding salmon to a dog? Is it because the dog did not purchase a license, or because the dog did not catch the fish himself?

Just to let you know, some of the fish that return to the hatchery, are taken and made into dog food.

First of all Pal. My dogs are not Mutts.  In fact they are members of the family. Two labs that would put a smile on your face if u saw them at the river with me.  Our vet has encouraged us to feed them salmon as they both have skin issues.  I quite often smoke my chum and any fish I kill do not go to waste and fyi my mutts also get indulge in coho, red spring etc.

Purebred labs?

For nearly thirty years I have boiled the skin, head, bones and any meat left from filleting salmon for my dogs.  They thrive on it and I have virtually no waste to dispose of.  Works for us.

^^ Totally agree with ya Dave. ;)

Didn't mean to offend you Dave C, I feed my hound fish scraps after a meal quite often but I don't kill whole fish just for this sole purpose. If I'm bonking, I intend to eat it, just my opinion, nothing more so sorry if you took offense, sometimes I can come off a little rough around the edges but nothing personal by any means even though I'd say it again.  :P

BTW, The "mutt" comment was merely just a figure of speech, so again, straighten the panties okay, and one more thing, if the purebred and the mutt are both eating all the fish, does that mean the ol lady is on the Alpo ???????? .............. Hope not for your sake !! ;) ;D

YEESH!!! Seeing as the chum was out of the cold water for an unspecified time I thought it best not to smoke, and just cook and give the whole thing to the dogs.  As for the Old Lady she makes a Killer Alpo-Loaf. You should come over for dinner sometime!  The whole purpose of my post was to let you guys know that there are some people out there who won't hesitate to liberate your catch when your back is turned.  Next time I won't bother.  I've seen dozens of gutted  pink does on the south side of the crossing, where it was obvious guys were just killing the pinks for roe and leaving the carcasses behind.  I guess they didn't have any mutts to feed them to.

For the record,

I did mention that it was a shame that people would stoop so low as to steal your fish from ya. ;)

Lots of low life's out there.
