Gill net marks on coho

Yesterday I caught a hatch doe that had Gill net marks on her.  I'm curious as to how this could have happened .  I wasn't aware of any openings for gill netting.

Are you for REAL? When did it become unusual at any time of year for salmon and steelhead to have net marks on them in British Columbia? Send your question to a politician in Ottawa.

Just one of the 101 coho salmon released by the 14 vessels in Area B's chum salmon commercial opening last week.

Johnny Canuck nailed it - photos are needed to confirm this fish is indeed a victim of a gill net, or perhaps, as coho are want to do, a rolling, frantic effort to escape an angler.  Line marks often look like net marks.
