I’m not normally a derby supporter but this one has the potential for really benefiting the C-V system. Not only did the CVRCS collect $700 for its cause but an additional $2500 was allocated to future enhancement work for steelhead (as yet undecided, but hopefully will be integrated into a long term nutrient enrichment program). Next year this event will come with a $20 entry fee … 50 % of which will go to the C-V system, so there are expectations of raising about 5k for enhancement. As Fred Helmer said so eloquently today, raising this amount of money, annually, has leverage when asking government for grants to further fund fisheries work on this river.
I ask all readers to support this event next year. Not only will your money go to a good cause, but the data collected regarding fish caught/angler numbers will add a bit more information into this vastly underfunded, and relatively unknown, population of fish.
And a free lunch!
Thanks Wally and Fred for making this event a winner
