VMC Siwash Hooks
« on: May 04, 2014, 12:46:54 PM »

I am doing a spinner parts order, and the only siwash hooks are VMC perma steel hooks.  Does anybody have any experience with them?  They are about $5 for 25 #1's, so they are a much better deal than spending $6 for 8 Gamakatsu hooks at a local tackle shop.  Does anybody here use them, if so any complaints?

Thanks

Don't know about this exact hook but I found VMC siwash hooks to be brittle. Every barb breaks off and more than half the open eyes break when you close them.

I use Matzuo sickle siwash or Mustad offset siwash. Neither are cheap, though.

The dne brand is very good for siwash hooks, how ever there salmon hooks are horrible for tying egg loops if your using light leaders. I found that on many hooks the eye of the hook were the eye is formed was sharp and cutting the leader. But you shouldn't have a problem with siwash hooks since there is nothing to cut. Their hooks are also pretty strong, never straightend one.

Ok thanks, I`ll have to look for them next time I go to Highwater Tackle.
