Mooching rod lenth.
« on: May 02, 2014, 06:52:02 PM »

Got me a Daiwa 9' 6" coastal specialty mooching rod for my Daiwa M-two reel last year. But I found out that for the tyee club regs in Cambell river
you can use a max of 9 ft min 7.5 ft. I got this rod from Army and Navy, and asked them if I could exchange it for a smaller one.
they said yes cuz it just sat there in my rod rack gathering dust. never used. I like to use my Southbend black beauty trolling reel rod combo.
or my Acuma avenger spinning mated to 10 ft ugly stick.

So the question to you guys is: Should I go max length (9 ft) or  what? I'm hoping I'll get out more in salt chuck this season.

Doesn't Tyee club also require a small rowboat?  I always feel like longer is better when it comes to most rods.  Of course, I haven't been mooching in over a decade.  I wonder what is in fashion these days?

Took it to A&N today and traded it in for a Daiwa Accurod 9' trolling rod. however I think I messed up. this one is med heavy. not too sure if it really matters. Hoping it could be used for mooching.
I think any rod would do. when my buddy mort stops the boat and bring out lunch, that's when I chuck a herring or whatever over the side and stick rod in holder. haven't caught anything doing that.
