How much line on a CP
« on: September 22, 2014, 07:35:45 PM »

Not sure how much line to put on my CP. I've seen some with lots of line and others with what looks like 1/2 inch of line..

It depends on the type of line, what backing you are using, poundage of line, species targeted, type of reel and the reels capacity.  You need to provide some background info to get a good answer.  Maybe put 75ish yards of 20-40 pound dacron backing and then about 200 yards of 15-20 pound stiffer mono like maxima chameleon or p line cxx.

I have backing on my Aventa with 12 lb ultra green, and still atleast 250 yards of mono. It's nice as it fills up the spool, so your retrieves are that much faster.

Just keep it at least a half inch from the top of the reel.  Its all personal preference, experiment and figure out what works best for you.  All you really need is 60 yards of line on your reel, I usually keep at least 150 yards of 20lb mono, with 40 yards of backing under the mainline..
