When to fish the Harrison?
« on: October 07, 2014, 01:32:32 PM »

Hi all,

I was thinking about putting my little boat in at Harrison this weekend and spincasting for some coho.  I tried finding updates on the run both here and on other sources, and haven't been able to find anything.  Will it be too early to make it worth it?  Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Any day fishing and not working is worth it, fish or no fish!

Haha! I generally agree, but when I'm talking about a two day trek out to the Harrison with the boat when I could just walk down to the lower Fraser from my house instead, I'd like to know that there are fish in the system at least.

I did find a little more information - for those who aren't aware, Fred's Tackle posts a fishing report on its website for the area's hotspots.  I don't know how often it updates, but this was super helpful to me.  Apparently there are low numbers of coho in the Harrison right now, but there are a fair few going through the Chilliwack and Vedder, so maybe things will start picking up this weekend.

I'd still appreciate anyone else's first hand knowledge or opinions!

Agreed. They seem to have a definite purpose to them...

Of course Freds says there are a fair amount going through, they are there to make a profit. Stopped using their reports a long time ago.

A late post. Fished the Harrison on Sunday. Mainly stayed at the mouth. Fishing was kind of slow. Caught a few big Chum but mostly buck and colored. Not many Coho's were around. Only saw one which was foul hooked by a shore fisherman. The only Spring I saw caught was by guys in Rod's boat while guiding. A double header Spring which was unheard of for me, Rod and many others in that location. Hope this info helps a bit.

Thanks all for the comments on Fred's reports; that's disappointing. And thanks capman for the first hand report!

We'll see what the weather's like this weekend.  Hopefully the coho start showing up in numbers!
