Fishing Report, June 25
« on: June 25, 2004, 11:44:25 PM »

Awoke at 4 am and saw on the forum my good Lion fan buddy Fish Assassian predicted a skunk for me today. ::) Thanks FA as it gave me more resolve to work hard at finding a fish. ;D

As I had been blanked the last two outing this week bar fishing with Leaf Craft #1 is was time to bring Leaf Craft #2 once again out of moth balls as time to change tactics with the Fraser once again on the rise.

Quickly gathered some snacks from the fridge and even brought breakfast along to have while fishing. :D

Was away quicker than usual as LC#2 slipped easily in the back of the Leaf Mobile and put in the electric motor as well as still have not found a replacement oar for the one I lost a few trips ago.

As I quietly slipped the truck into drive and out of the driveway with as litle noise as possible so not to disturb those still asleep I noticed dawn was just starting to break.

Excitement began to build as I wondered what adventure lay ahead for this angler today as I sipped coffee from the mug and munched on a donut I had picked up last night when I bought the shrimp that I thought I would  experiment with for the first time if the case arose.

It seems every fishing trip something different happens.

As I drive by several popular bar locations I saw several people fishing the other way, they must have got an earlier start than me I thought. ;D

As I arrived at the spot I had choosen to fish for the day I was pleased once again to see I was once again alone. ;D

As I started unload LC #2 noticed a penny lying in the grass which I promptly picked up and place it in the bottom of the boat with the Maple Leaf facing up of course. ;D sort of a good luck charm like the Canadian hockey teams did with a loonie at the Olympics putting it under the ice at center ice. FA did not know this bit of luck would befall me and break his jinx. As well he did not know the Slammers ball team had given me one of their much in demand red ball caps last night, double luck. ;D

I made my first cast around 7 and not long after I missed a fish on cooked bugs while working on breakfast. Too much slack line in the water even with it being waxed to keep it from sinking, easier to pick up before striking.

Another bug on and another miss. I knew they were springs by the way the take the float under and there was no coarse fish around today.

A little while later missed another, was FA's prediction coming true?

For the next two hours nothing but nice scenery and fresh air to enjoy and enhale.

Was going to try the shrimp but could not find them in my ice chilled bait cooler, darn must have left them at home. ???

So switched to pro cured spring roe and while winding in a spring latches on but quickly falls off. As I continue to reel in and about 5 feet from the boat a terrific swirl as the same spring I guess hooks himself and scares me half to death in the process. :D Talk about a hungry and aggressive salmon as the line peels off the Avon Supreme. I reach and film the goings on for about 3 to 4 minutes and then fish gone. Did he break off or too much fooling around with the camera? On looking at the hook every thing appears fine.

A bit of disgust falls over me but hey there is fish around today and it is only 10 o'clock as I put on another gob of bait. Ian's home made float goes about 2 feet after hitting the water and then slips smoothly under the water. With all the adrenalin now pumping through my veins I react without hesitation and I have fish on again. Is it the same one or not. Feels about the same size as I play and film the 11 pound prize spring as he tries to gain his freedom for the third time.( if it is the same fish who knows for sure) I have heard of steelhead being caught played, then released only to bite again. Slow learners I guess. ;D

I then remember no net, as lent one to CEJ for his ocean trip to the Northrn part of the Island and the other net is in LC#1 at home. :'(

So I start the electric motor and head for the beach to complete the fight before slipping the fish ashore. ;D ;D Great on a couple accounts as fresh fish for the week, including some to share and broke the spell of FA in short order. ;D ;D
After marking the license I have lunch and  havea nap waiting for good friend Gary to arrive. On his arrival I tell him the fish stories that have happen this morning.

I visit with Gary and he loses one before I leave to pick some trailing blackberries on the way home.

Nothing better than fresh spring on the barby with blackberry pie for dessert. I can taste it now but that will have to wait until  anothter time as I am quickly falling asleep as I type this report of another successful day on the flow  with number 5 spring of the year now sitting safely in the fridge. ;D

Two days off now for me but good luck to all this weekend, it should be a good one as the springs are in. The pillow awaits as does the sweet dreams of another day in our great outdoors, how fortunate I am to be able to fish on most days when the itch comes to me. Good night to all until my next report which will come once again head out for another fishing adventure come Monday. ;D ;D ;D

Well done Chris !  It's nice to see someone who has to go through life with the burden of a Make Belief fan on his shoulder and the ridicule of the nation to finally have something good happened. Did I mention that that the Make Me Laughs have not won hockey's ultimate prize since 1967 ?  Go out and buy a lottery ticket !

You could try tossing Koho and kit a mat spoons at the mouths of jones or emery creeks.  Try using them in the numbers of 55 and 65.  Or get some really good roe and use it under a float.
