Sea-Run’s Fishing Report & Courses Update - May 2nd, 2015Happy Weekend All!
It is that time of year where we begin to see a big transition over from Steelhead fishing to another form of trout fishing. There are a couple main opportunities to be had, that which involve Cutthroat Trout and Rainbow Trout. The Cutthroat Trout opportunities will be limited to various areas in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley, while the Rainbow Trout opportunities will be spread province wide in local and interior lakes. May is definitely the signal to get out and get your trout gear ready.
A good amount of interior lakes have now iced off due to an earlier ice-off than normal with the warmer temperatures, and fishing has been fantastic in some Merritt and Kamloops area lakes. One good sign this year that we have seen is a good abundance of fish made it through the Winter without any real noticeable Winter Kills. Last Spring we had seen a large amount of interior lakes suffer from worse than normal Winter Kills.
There are definitely some Steelhead opportunities still out and about, but a good majority have now wrapped up with most rivers being closed as of May 1st, and if not, a lot of Winter Steelhead streams will have these fish spawning or returning back to the Ocean. That being said, there will still be some newer fish entering systems such as the Vedder River, which remains
open to
FLY FISHING ONLY below the Vedder Crossing Bridge May 1st - May 30th. In this fishery this time of the year, you will catch a mix bag of new fish, older fish, and fish that have kelted (already spawned) and heading back down to the Ocean.
Besides the Trout thing, there are definitely Salmon opportunities available in the Saltwater. Things are just starting to heat up again for Chinook Salmon. Check out our website report for more details!
