Fort Langley Stream/Slough
« on: June 03, 2015, 02:19:14 PM »

Hi All,
I am not sure the name of the body of water but...
There is a slow moving stream that flows into the Fraser edging Fort Langley.
I have paddled it a couple times and have seen a few people fishing it.
Any idea if there is any fish in there?
Thanks
JOE

Salmon river. All catch and release wild stocks. Coho chum in fall cutthroat around to. Also some course fish and can't remember name but one species of concern...Salish sucker maybe? Spoons spinners or dew worm roe work good...maybe fly pattern could work but never tried.

Yeah thought it was the Salmon River but wasn't too sure.
I may have to toss a line next time I am there.

Check the regs first there might be closure time to time and boundary etc.

No fishing above 232 st aka Livingston road.  Plus the general release all wild trout/char.  Apparently there is bASS in there too so feel free to catch and keep or catch and dispose of as many as you want.  Most CO's do not care about that nudge nudge wink wink...

Yes the endangered fish species in the Salmon River is the Salish Sucker. The Nooksack Dace is another endangered species. Both are only present in a small number of streams and creeks around Abbottsford, Chilliwack and Langley.

The Salmon River was (may still be) the local index stream for wild cutthroat trout. There was some enhancement of coho salmon and a counting fence but I don't know if either is still in operation. Coho used to come back relatively late in that river. Lots of interesting info on the web.

This is a precious little stream. Treat everything with respect and be careful about reducing possible mortality of released fish.
