I'm headed up to Birkenhead in a week with my 7 year old, the plan is to put the canoe in the water and do some fishing and see if we can get into a few trout.  I've been looking online and I am not finding much in the way of reports but plan to swing by a tackle shop in Pemberton en route.  I am concerned as to the size and windiness of Birkenhead lake, would anyone with any local knowledge be able to give any advice if we would be better to stick to Blackwater and if we would stand any chance of hook ups there this time of year? Thanks in advance!

Stick to Blackwater lake, nice little spot with some small trout and somewhat protected from the wind.

I'd check and see if you can get up that way with all the fires in the area.

Thanks - we are definitely keeping a close eye on that.  It seems to be open/accessible at this moment.

Birkenhead is beautiful but is consistently windy. Blackwater is where I'd be with a kid for sure.
