Dear Friends of the Herring Sale:

The 2015 herring sale will be on Saturday, December 5, 2015 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. 

In Steveston, it's still only $10 for 20 pounds of fresh beautiful herring.

Help us spread the word.  Email your friends. Print the poster attached to this email and post it at your workplace, church, community center, or store.  We’ll send you posters if you want to put up more.

           
Every penny you spend on herring goes to help kids with cancer at BC Children’s Hospital.  We are a 100% volunteer organization and everything from ice, to the fuel that drives the seiner’s engines is donated.  If you buy a bag of herring for $10, exactly $10 goes to kids with cancer, not one penny less.  So far, the herring sale has raised nearly $300,000.  If you want to volunteer, email us at fhkwcinfo@gmail.com.

I made a number of jars of awesome Swedish pickled herring fillets last year and had a bunch of pan fried too .

I went to the sale this morning with my father-in-law and a buddy, and scored a bunch of herring; 132lbs in total. The line appeared to move a lot faster than last year. Although they said that the herring were bigger on average than last year, the ones I got were actually smaller.  Good vibe and they had a better handle on putting people's coolers out of the way to pick up later when getting the fish, than last year. I now have all mine in the brine and am voraciously looking forward to the final product. Last I heard, they sold 25 tonnes of herring! Great for the kids!
