The guys at Berry's might be able to give you some advice. They have that kids trout fishing set-up at the fathers day sale. Personally, I don't see why you couldn't. Nobody should give you too much grief over a few rainbows in a backyard pond...

I have a pond with 5 large Koi, a few of their offspring (8-10 inches), and some goldfish. In 15 years we haven't lost a big one, but a few offpsring to herons. A family of raccoons come everyday for a bath - fortunately their fishing skills suck! Another thing to watch out for is frogs - they don't co-exist well with the fish

500 gallons is to small a pond. You need something much larger with continuous fresh water flow through the pond to make a go of keeping trout healthy and alive for any length of time. Try some Koi, they are a hardy breed more suited to a small pond.

Don't think  you can throw some fish in water and have a ace to fish!
Fish husbandry is A science.
There's alot more to it than water and the fish you put into it.

Consider the size of the pond.
The average bathtub holds 60 gallons.
A 600 gallon pond will get some tugs without the rub ???

Best to get some property and build a small lake no matter what fish you stock it with.

A small pond won't allow for fun unless of course you're a kid bored with cartoons

Idk if you guys have seen the vids from "fishing creeks" on YouTube but That Ken guy also has a second channel called nitrate buster where he showcases his pet fish which include trout and some salmon fry in a 600 gallon aquarium...link: http://youtu.be/WDlSZIKxS64

Oh boy you should just do a search and see what comes up in regards to his fishing videos  :o
