2017 Pink salmon run dismal

It seems DFO was right by not opening this years Fraser River pink salmon fishery ..

Wonder if it has anything to do with allowing beach seining two years ago???

No. Based on netting surveys done in the spring of 2016 they estimate the # of fry that hatched and migrated out to sea. That estimate is used to calculate the expected return. You may recall the 2015 return was also much lower than expected.
