Their best interests, as local people, would be to enhance a sustainable harvest.  We have to separate quota from sustainability...although tied together they are two distinct issues...there is no quota if there are no fish. Too much of the debate and effort is going into quota discussions, more should be going into sustaining a healthy fish population...something all users should have as a First priority.

Are you joking me. Have you ever listened to what average First Nations people blame the demise of the fishery on? Literally everyone but themselves. If they had control it would be basically a 24/7 free for all. They really believe their netting does not have any significant impact on Fraser stocks. Have you ever been fishing on the Fraser when a First Nation induced net lull hits? It’s night and day, the flow of fish literally stops to almost nothing.

If they had dictator like control of their own openings they would net it to oblivion and when the fish were all gone they would find a way to blame it on somebody else
