Saw Piles of boats and nets on fraser just up from Port mann, didnt look like much was getting by
Does anyone know what fishery that is?
Got my 2 yesterday but hard work for this time of year

I think the Native commerical opening has been just as worse as the commercial for stocks. During the opening this past week for commercial, there was 25% less boats drifting then there is today. I just drove over on the way back from Grassy......fished 6 hours and saw top of bar to bottom 9 fish landed, 1 being a Spring and the rest little rodents pounded by net marks. None for me.

Good portion of the fish i've caught this year have had net marks. I'm beginning to wonder why we even have the DFO anymore. If the fishery is open or not it seems no one really cares anymore.

no offence DOC S&G, but i take offence to the statement that the FN's are only fishing on the weekend. I have been taking my buddies boat all up and down the fraser in the last few days to break in the new 350 cid inline. all i have been seeing is native boats and drift nets, all over the river, staying until 5 in the morning and then changing shifts and staying out all day again,........

DFO does'nt give a rats my friend about this.  i will refrain from further comment because i dont want to get more angry than i already am.

I was at a friend's condo by the New Westminster quay and we sat and watched the native commercial fishery. With binoculars aimed, we saw three boats pulling up their nets. The first boat had just 3 sockeyes and 1 spring(it was huge). The Second boat had 7 sockeyes and the third boat had 6 sockeyes. That's a pretty crappy haul for an hour and a half's work . They took off further up river after that. I would guess that other boats are doing better upstream.

The Dr SG was referring to the FN openings in the tidal Fraser, not talking about the drift nets you've witnessed in the freshwater portion of the Fraser.

What goes on in the non-tidal Fraser is a whole different story. Whether FOC cares or not, ones need to actually talk to them to know that. Devona Adams is a good person to start. It's a sensitive problem, so I doubt anyone is jumping into it irrationally without considering the consequences in the long run.

Rodney (or Chris), are these drift nets in the non-tidal portion of the river the ones Chris was referring about when he asked us to write letters.  If they are there in a big way,  regardless whether there is an official opening or not, then what FOC is really trying to do is to legitimize an illegal fishery that is already going on.  If so, isn't anyone's protest or action (FOC's or ours) just a matter of motion, as the illegal fishery is there one way or the other? Quite a frustrating situation!  FOC has to get the gut to enforce the rules or else they will lose credibility in the eyes of all fishing sectors, particularly the natives.

 i was in the tidal portion and the non tidal portion.

Trout Stalker you only seen 9 sockeye caught on Grassy on sunday? my boat got 11 sockeye and a spring. I helped 2 other boats land springs. 2 other springs were lost in my group also. we went home around 1:00 wtih our limit of 8 fish.

yea ok...i really enjoy having three boats full of antiwhite FN's coming at me to swamp my bud's boat and get threatened with weapons.
