Hey all,

My wife and I are taking a kid-free road trip on the island this coming weekend and spending the first couple of nights in Port Hardy. We've never been to that part of the island before and wondering if there are any chances of fishing from shore or great hikes/sightseeing in the area? Google isn't really turning up a lot.

there are some lovely beaches between Port McNeil and Port Hardy and pink and coho salmon can be caught along these when the fish are running. Pinks may be done but coho should be starting. Both the Cluxewe and Keogh Rivers plus local creeks support cutthroat and these can be caught along these beaches as well. Likley some sea run dollies as well.

I haven't been up there for decades so you'll have top enquire locally. Access is possible from Cluxewe Resort as some folks stay there specifically for the beach fishing.

if you have enough time their is a small ferry that can transport you over to malcolm island. from there head to bere point park. this is where lots of killer whales are spotted rubbing their bellies against the gravel. their are great trails and a few places to fish at the points. amazing scenery

Will be exploring the Cluxewe this weekend if its to windy to get out on the ocean.

Stayed overnight while waiting for the ferry a few years ago. People were fishing the shoreline right below the hotel.

You can fish right from the dock there's even a 'kid's fishing park' of a sort-tonnes of bait right in the bay.

the Quatse River runs into the Bay. It has much the same fish populations as the Keogh and Cluxewe. It has a community hatchery:
