African barracuda
« on: September 01, 2020, 08:40:03 PM »

I enjoy watching fishing shows produced by Cyril Chauquet. One aired a number of years ago called "The Fishing Adventurer". His current one is called "Chasing Monsters"

In the episode I watch today he was chasing large barracuda in a lagoon, adjacent to the Atlantic, in Gabon, Africa.

He caught a big 'cuda but lost it to a shark. This was all he was left with.

This was the plug he extracted from mouth of the head

And this is one he finally landed

Big fish...

Rapala makes great lures . . . but durability isn't a strong suit

I used that same Rapala Shallow Shad Rap in Fire Tiger (with the hooks changed to the same Owner 4x tin-plated trebles as well) to land my largest ever barramundi some years ago. I love those lures and in particular the metal harness that connects the tie-point to the hook anchors. My retired lures wall of fame at home has several destroyed balsa Rapalas.
