Last week I was fly fishing @ Rice lake and all of a sudden the Fisheries BC truck with 1000 trout came around and I was lucky enough to be there along with another couple of angler and we got see how they stocked the lake. Fisheries staff mentioned that the water was cold enough for the trout to bite (otherwise it may take them a few days to adapt) and rightly enough, it was an epic day. Pretty cool to see schools of 20 trout chasing your flies. Never had a double digit day at Rice Lake (for me 1-2 trout there means a very good day) so cannot complain!
Staff also mentioned that to avoid poaching, they avoid sharing when they plan to stock and also there is a some delay on them posting the reports online. Just keep this in mind as if you suspect a lake may be stocked in a given week, don't wait for the report, just hit the lake and you may get rewarded!!
Adding a couple of shots of trout I caught. You can see the difference between the first one (caught before the stocking, was probably in the lake for a while) and the second one, much darker and slightly bigger that came straight from the hatchery.
