Newbie for the Salmon season
« on: June 20, 2021, 07:31:37 AM »

Looking forward to fishing the Veeder in July. I fished the Veeder years ago on two occassions when I lived in Langley, lost one Coho. Moved to the Island then Kelowna now back in Chilliwack. Very much a newbie to river fishing for salmon however been learning the system with thanks to Rods tutorials, great help.Hopefully I have figured it out now to put it to practice and have some luck.

Most anglers will be more than happy answer any questions.  Learn to read the water and which lanes the fish prefer.  A good rule of thumb is to fish the border between fast and slower water.  Being in the strike zone is a must.  Concentrate on being a foot to a foot and a half above bottom.  Tight lines.

The grammar police here. It’s spelled Vedder not Veeder. Brush up on your regs and learn your fish identification. Release all Sockeye gently if caught. Wear a PFD and practice good angler etiquette and ethics. Good luck and stay safe.

shrimp or prawns are a good bait alternative. Spinners and spoons are effective lures.

There are a wide variety of possibilities, but some of the more common and successful options include:

Spoons and blades for Coho and Nooks.

Jigs under a float (also tipped with shrimp) for Chum and to a lesser degree Nooks.

Stripped flies for coho and pinks.

Twitching jigs for everything.
