Then and Now: Sport Fishing for Salmon in British Columbia highlights the history of recreational sport fishing in BC, and tells the story of how it became the fishing industry it is today.
It revisits the adventures of anglers from the early, and somewhat unregulated, days of Campbell River, and the heydays of the Sun Derby in Horseshoe Bay. It explores early technology and how new technology has impacted the sport. It educates on the lifecycle of a salmon and it’s journey from the ocean back up the river from where it once came, as well as the different species of salmon indigenous B.C.’s coast. It will also give an inside look at coastal hatcheries and their salmon conservation efforts, as well as proper catch and release methods to support the efforts made by anglers, in order to preserve this valuable resource for generations to come.

Watch it on Sportsman Channel Canada, Tuesdays at 7pm PST and Sundays at 12pm PST. Sportsman Channel has a free preview from March 1st - April 15th, 2022 so everyone can watch it for free.

I would love to share my collection of old BC fishing magazines. (the price in some ads on a new Datsun pick up was $1595) There's all kinds of old pictures and articles by people like Lee Straight and a few other sport fishing pioneers. I'm moving and I should be able to find where they've been hiding for the last 20 years or so. I'm betting there's a wealth of information there. We need a museum.
