The Golden Mean of Fly tying

So many experienced anglers get this wrong. What are the ratios of hackle tail and wing on dry and wet flies?

Standard Dry fly:

Down wing Dry (Caddis):


Parachute Dry:



nymph:





Standard wet fly:



Wing is length of the hook to the bend = A

Hackle reaches the hook point = D

Body reaches the start of the barb

Tail = length of the body & extends a hook gap past the bend
