I have a renzetti traveller and a Regal Rotary. Both very good vices that excel in different ways and both cost in the $300 range. IMO the base on the stock Renzetti traveller is too light. the vice head also has many parts and if knocked off your desk will come apart - bearings and springs will vanish. The regal vice jaws may chip. Mine has and i have heard the same of others, The renzetti jaws are fidely and have to be adjusted for hook size and wire gauge. The Regal requires no adjustment though the jaws are large near the hook and that can be bothersome with small hooks.
You didn't mention what your budget may be. Griffin vises have a great reputation at about half the price. another good option is the Apex vises; US made with a lifetime warranty. Both models comes with both a pedestal/desk base and a clamp. The lower price apex rotary can be had for under $200 locally. There are many other great vices on the market. Do some work on line.
Yes, that's happened to me with my Renzetti Traveller. But I have used this vice for over 20 years now. The problem is the rubber O-ring that goes around the rear of the vice jaws towards the clamp. If the O-ring wears out (which it will), then the jaws are prone to come apart, freeing the ball bearings and springs. Lucky for me, I never lost my components, and a new O-ring is very inexpensive. I even used a rubber band as a stop gap until I could get a new O-ring.
Other than that, it is an excellent vice.
