just for argument here are photos of Atlantic salmon in fall or spawning phase colors;

these are large adults. Lots of red orange blotches with a golden brown or olive background on these specimens. Often they will have purple hues. So called grilse, fish that have had one year of feeding at sea are generally 3 to 5lbs.
