Lucky, don't waste your time fishing the cap when the water is dead low.

sheeesh...Fishing is never a waste of time Robert!

There are a few guys who hook fish there regardless of water conditions...one specific flyfisher comes to mind.  While I havent bonked a fish on the cap since the high water its always nice to be on the river.

There are a lot of springs in the river right now...I am glad there is a bait ban til nov 1 cause it would be a beak show otherwise.

the next time it rains, how much fish will be brought in do you think? not sure whether to go to the Vedder or the Cap soon. what is a 'beak' show there Gooey?

The cap is so easy to access and in the cable pool you can sit there and watch hundreds of fish...the beak show are are the clowns that follow that dont have a clue.  guys with 10 foot leaders BB'ing, guys using cod jig, snaggers, treble hooks, barbed hooks, fireline...the works.

Just the other day 2 guys roll in with a couple of BIG spinning outfits and a tackle boxes in each hand....they see the fish jumping and get all excited.  First thing one did was put a gob of roe on.  I told him of the bait ban (til nov 1) and he refrained from using it but thats an example of the beak show that goes on there.

I think members of this forum will benefit more with sharing of information or techniques than just complaining.  You did the right thing Gooey to remind the guy about bait ban. There is no need to attack others unless they are snagging fish intentionally. Perhaps you can share with others what the right ways to fish the Cable Pool at this low water.  I personally think that without bait, either forget about Cable Pool or the Cap for that matter, or switch to fly fishing with small presentations in early morning or late afternoon.  Spinning is more effective when there is more flow and the fish is more aggressive.  One can also fish the high tide at lower river, but that depends if the wiers of the natives will block fish migration even with the highest tides. Other ideas?

Fulcrum, I wasnt complaining about those 2 fishers, just siting an example of the type of beaks that show up...no excuses for not reading the regs!

And I was fly fishing the cable pool that afternon...I had just watched the fly fisher I referrance earlier land an nice chrome 4  lb coho and it was 2:40PM!   The fly fisher I referred to earlier, catches fish what time he is there and every time he is there.

Prior to the rain 2 weeks ago, I had been doing relatively well on hardware in the early morning...I think we need some fresh fish before that success will be seen again.

The Capilano can be a dangerous river to fish at times. Every year the North Shore Search and Rescue had to rescue anglers who is not properly equipped to go hiking into the canyons.

Get a life fulcrum, you're just trying to stir the pot.  I get off at 2:30  and have a nanny for my 2 boys until 3:30.  I work and live within 3 kms of the cap and if I got 45 minutes to spare to go chuck a fly...the cable pool is the best bet.  Reread my posting and you'll notice what time I was there...its nothin to do with laziness more like convenience

PS I just snorkelled the cable pool again today and pulled out sooooo much crap.  Most (75%) had treble hooks, but among the junk: apex spoon, 2 cyote spoons, a freeking B2 squid (5 inch plastic squid), 3 Bouncing betties with loooooooong leaders.  Not to mention all the blue fox spinners and crocs .  Most of the crap is put the by people who dont follow the regs and dont know how to fish (hence the red and white dare devils etc).

I would say that the fishers on this site represent a tiny fraction of the people on rivers.  IMHO most of the people fishing the cap (particularly the cable pool) dont have a clue.  So when I say the cable pool turns into a beak show that doesnt mean that I am talkin about you nor does it mean I am complaining, I can fish around those guys just fine.

Now back to the river...while the river is much cleaner now and free'er of snags, there are very few fresh fish to be seen...I wont be fishing it till high water unless I want to burn an hour practicing my fly casts!

I would have to agree that the numbers one the cap have been light this summer...but thats due to low water conditions and few fish getting thru.   As is the case now.

Fulcrum, Gooey doesn't need to explore the river. He knows every pool since he started fishing there about 25 yrs ago.
