Chilliwack/Vedder Oct 12
« on: October 12, 2004, 03:49:26 PM »

Fished from first light at Wilson road.Saw one small jack coho taken in water I would swear should have produced at least a couple dozen fish. This is five staight skunks.Have fished from limit hole to train bridge different days. But always where fish have been present this time in the past.I know some people on this board have had good success.I also know that timing was important to the success I have seen others enjoy this year. With at least 50 rods in at one of the hottest holes after the rain you would think results would be better.Went down to canal to search for new fish on incoming tide.Met a fellow who has done lots brood fish work with the hatcheries. His conversation with some hatchery people was(if they show up in the next couple of weks then they are just late,if not then you know why)The why is he suspects the powers that be have deliberately underfunded local hatchery's like chilliwack because they intended to close them. Why fund to typical levels when the doors are going to close anyway?Besides we know our licence dollars can be put to much better use elsewhere right. The same experience is happeng all over the Faser and its tributarys. For all our sakes I hope he is wrong and the main runs of coho are just delayed.O yes skunked again. This past embarrassing weeks ago!

Too bad you had a bad day out on the Vedder. We will all be experiencing lots more bad days on the river if the government ever shuts down that hatchery. I would imagine the Vedder hatchery is one of the most important hatcheries in the province since the angling pressure on that river is so high.

Could not get out because of house renovations. >:(

A tip, never never let your wife get you involved with house renovations during the coho season. :'(

Did sneak away for a look see just before dark in the canal area and saw about 5 fish on including 2 fresh doe chums landed at KWB.

One a very bright fish was being cleaned by an person who threw the roe into the river. Guess who got it an it was not a seagull.  ;D

The other also a fresh doe chum was hooked in the belly by  a fellow BB ing and I was glad to help him release it on his request  by plucking out the hook.  ;D  ;D

By the look of it a fresh run of chums were coming through the canal area tonight as also saw two others beached down near the freeway bridge.

Hopefully there is some CO's in with them but the question is when can I get out to get at them. I have to move things around again tomorrow for some wood working repairs that are going to take place. Then on Thursday painting is supposed to happen.

When will it end as a new cork floor is scheduled to be laid in early November. Maybe will be done by steelhead season. ??? ::)

Also if you do not see me on this board for a while it is because the reno's have meant the computer has been put out to pasture for a while. >:( :( :'(

Chris, I thought you fish all year and no time is a good time to get involved in reno's ;).

Tomorrow will be my first outing to the Vedder this year for coho. Gman will be showing up at my door step at 5:00AM so I better get off this board and get some rest.

I fished up and down Chedder and no coho to be caught.  Hooked and landed over 20 chums and dark springs.  No good fish to keep.  Where are all the cohos? ???

hello all, fish from 7:00 am to 11:30am, at the canal, water is low. try and find a small spot with little current, fish surfacing on top of the water. hooked into three fish, first a wild coho(gently release),second, a dog(release too) and the third, a nice 8 lbs. hatchery buck(bonked).as soon the sun come up, everything stop.

I'm ready to give up on the coho's...when does steelhead season start  ;D
Already C&R'd 2 from the Cap mouth.  Heard there are some big ones that move up the river.  Is it C&R for steelhead all year?
