Its been a few good days for me recently (non-fishing speaking that is). On Oct 21st, my birthday, those who have been following my EBAY scandal story will be happy to hear that the jack my friend who burned me for $800 was arrested, and my money has been returned. Now its his turn to get.....well...I hope he enjoys his fellow inmates
so I thought I would try that luck with a few freshly tied maribou jigs on my favourite quiet corner on the Cap......
So, I arrived at 2pm with my new polarized glasses, and was happy to be able to see the water was a great height..and the fish were holding in a similar spot as they were the week before - only problem was last week the water was about 4 feet higher...so this time the wade was easy.
Got into the casting area...a little tricky...low hanging branches directly above, and to the right and left of the fish. A few short casts and I realize its actually better to over cast, bounce it off the vertical wall on the other side, and let it sink into the fish....
First well placed cast, and fish on. I see a beautiful chrome streak as the fish cuts left....jumps....WOW...clean fish! So...I stumble back to a good place to fight it out, and its a good 8 lb coho...lovely rainbow colour.
Closer it comes, and then finally to foot. As I reach down to scoop this beauty, it rolled on its side and...ewwwwwwwwwww its got 3 lamprey chewing on it. it had one perfect side, and holes and wounds all down the other.
Back she went.
The maribous did their jobs wonderfully...I had about 6 or 8 hooks ups after that first fish. Sadly....it appreas I must have enjoyed a little too much of my friends Cuban rum at my birthday dinner, because my hook setting was pathetically slow today. Like Captain Caveman slow. So...nothing else except a few coho leaps and popped hooks, but everyfish I hooked seemed nice and clean.
a nice day to be out
