FWR Fly Pattern Of November
« on: November 03, 2004, 08:48:39 PM »

Going to give somthing new a try to lighten up this forum a little. :)

How does it work?

Each month we will give an oppurtunity for one of are avid fly-tyers to share one of their favorite flies with others and give in-depth detail about their pattern. People interested in having their pattern posted are to email me at: aaron@fishingwithrod.com and title the email: "FWR Fly Of The Month." In the email please include an original picture of the creation, the fly recipe and a few basic tying steps. This post will be kept at the top of the forum page and I will update it monthly with someone's new fly each time.

To get things rolling I have randomly selected d_w for November's Fly Of The Month.

Fly Name:D_W's Hot Magic Coho Pattern

Materials:
Hook:Mustad 9672 #8
Tying Thread: Black No.8
Body: Blue Krystal Flash
Tail: Red Hackle
Bottom Wing:Natural Pheasant Tail
Middle Wing: Krystal Flash(Vairety Of Colours)
Top Wing:Natural Mallard Feather

Steps:

1.Start the thread at the eye of the hook then work it's way down to the end of the hook shank.

2.Take enough red hackle(amount shown in pic) and cut it the length of the hook shank and tie on. Make it look fairly sparse.

3.Now take 3 strands of blue Krystal Flash, tie them in and wrap them towards the eye of the hook keeping the hook hidden and a fairly smooth looking body.Cut off excess.

4.Now take a fairly small picking of Natural Pheasant Tail and tie it in on the top of the hook shank and so that just enough is lined up with the tip of the tail.

5.Repeat step#4 only this time take a few strands of whatever colour you select Krystal flash and tie them on top.

6.Same steps again but this time insert a few pickings of Natural Mallard feathers and tie them on top.

7.Form a neat head with the tying thread.

8.Whip finish the fly and it is complete. Apply head cement if desired.

Once again, if you would like your fly to be selected for next month's Fly Of The Month or in the future please email me the info via. aaron@fishingwithrod.com

Thanks and happy tying. ;)

Great idea! I am assuming that the fly of the previous month will be kept showing on the thread so that we can refer to past flies of the month?
Nice fly d_w. I'll be giving that one a try.
