june 21 sturgeon fishing
« on: June 22, 2005, 02:00:37 AM »

I fished in richmond by the fraser this afternoon.  at around 1pm, the current was so strong, can't even keep the line straight on a 6oz. and lost 3 sets of bars, hooks and weights on the rocks........  2 hourse after, the water all the sudden stopped.  and that was the time i landed a 2 footer.  Right after I release the fish, a guy came to me and asked me wut i was fishing for.. I told him i was having fun with the sturgeons..  and he offered me 500 dollars for hte next sturgeon i caught.  I wonder wut is this guy into.. btw, i thought all the sturgeons have some kinda micro chip in them ,so wutever those guys are called "marine biologists" can keep track of them.  IS THAT TRUE?????

A large # of sturgeon have been radio tagged and can be monitored this way.  Not all fish have been tagged but the size of the chip is so small you would never know it was there unless you scanned the fish to see.   ;)  As far as your new friend goes.  He sounds like el poacher to me!  Killing any sturgeon in the fraser is illegal and morally just wrong!  :-\  Those larger fish may be older than you by 60-100 years.  I call it respect!  Any fish that can survive as long as they have on this raped planet disserves it.   :o  8)  Just my 2!

Sounds like a bit of a poach...

If he was indeed a marine bio, he would have had some sort of ID on him, and if he was, he'd probably find a much cheaper solution than buying it from us sporties for $500.

Buy it from one person, who makes $500 from fishing, and ask him not to say anything, would be a way of getting your fish without worrying about anyone sayign much...I smell a scam  :-\ If you get asked again, call it in, or ask to see some ID, or "accidently drop" the fsh back in the water. These fish deserve more respect than they recieve, be careful out there.

I have asked a couple of guys and actually got to a dude who was asked for the same question.  It's in the same spot where i usually fished in.  Well, not exactly the same spot, butl like apart for 10 meters.  He fished there for 15 years there for sturgeon especially.  but just catch and release as ALL of us do.  Does state has sturgeon? he told me a nice size sturgeon in US black market can go up to $5000 a piece.  Don't know if it's true. comments!!

Just got back from fishing-sturgeon.  caught a 4 feet energetic boy.  And the funny thing is when the fish jumped out of the water, a guy with a boat on fraser actually stopped and stayed there until he saw me release the fish~~  haha... had a post yesterday and today people are aware of it already???  LOL
