The Fraser Is Mud
« on: June 21, 2005, 10:14:49 AM »

Just as the Fraser was starting to round into shape for bar fishing I got a report from The Master last night thatthe water was mud with lots of trees etc. coming down.

I see the gauge at McBride is going way up again. Mostly something to do with the heavy rain along the Rockies that has caused major problems on the Prairies. That means it is heading this way and bar fishing will be delayed again.

The Master reported getting his clients into a 7 foot sturgeon on Sunday and lost a Spring bar fishing as well. Yesterday only one small sturgeon because of the mud I persume.

Mosquitos were terrible off Island 22 and at the mouth of the Sumas. What a welcome for his guests.

I was going to try the mouth today for a chinook but the word of those little creatures changed my plans. :(

Will check it later today and give an update

I know of at least 1 fish getting the rock shampoo today!  ;)  Smallish spring around 10-12# High water is a plus for me.  I would rather fish on the float than wait for my bar rod to bounce.  Just my personal opinion.  Sturgeon fishing was a bust though, as the lines would be full of fraser cabbage in no time!  :o

Just talked to the Master, river still mud and they were blanked today. By the look of the up river gauges river will be on the rise again down here. SN and I will be pleased to get in some more action on the float, bring out the prawn tails again. ;D ;D

Bar fishing aways away. :(

Thought the water would come from the Chilcotin river and Fraser basin and into the Fraser, it's been pouring for days up there.

The Rockies drain into the Columbia, Lots of water in both rivers and more rain forecast :(

If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles

I look personally 24/7 as I live right on the river....hasn't come up much yet....maybe a few inches but boy is she muddy! Solid mud....absolutely non Bar Fishing material.....its sad but true....I'm assuming that the river will only be muddy and high for at least 4 days max....and there is no rain in the forcast for at least a week....next weekend will be bar fishing weekend!

Lets hope so as getting itchy feet to get after them on the bar rigging. Talking about getting itchy the mosquitos are just terrible around the Fraser.

When Gwyn and I were out on Sunday I put on gloves, hoody up, chest waders on so that kept most of the little pests chasing Gwyn who did not come prepared. ;D Of course there was no wind so that made matters worse.

A small fire with smoke helps also.
