Success ~! Pink attack 8/27/05
« on: August 27, 2005, 05:40:53 PM »

Simply Splendid.

Started my day off below Alex fraser bridge shore fishing.
Threw in a whole bunch of different lures with no success however,
it was good to see that there were at least 6 other people fishing and none of them even had a nibble :P
it was around 3pm when i left shore to head back to Richmond to try out South Arm.
the place was packed with anglers when i got there, Fish leaping and all. Crazy scene.
no one seemed to have caught anything but i got out my ultra light abu-garcia anyways.
fished there for 3 minutes, whammmm. Fish on ! The fish just couldn't resist my lure.
The next thing i know, i'm running out of line and the drag's running like mad, a battle that felt like at least 20 minutes.
I didn't know how long exactly, but it was crazy... When i finally got the fish near shore, a biker actually offered to help me net the fish. (Eventhough i got the fish to shore, it felt like the Abu was actually gonna break with my 8lb line; and from my past experience, I've lost a very nice coho a month ago just trying to handle it myself. so i didn't risk netting it on my own)
A nice 2ft Pink Female. I'll somehow post the pictures but i don't know how...

darn, after looking at rod's fishing post,
i seriously want my fishing buddy back from vacation.
I need a friend to take pictures and enjoy the Pink action with me.
(well, as least i got a nice shot of the fish after gutting it)

what a beast! great size fish! do the pinks taste different when caught in the river than when they're caught at sea? does the hump part add or subtract from any fish flavour?

It certainly may have been crazy, but when I was there from around 4 pm onwards there were no jumpers for at least 1 hr or so, it was absolutely dead and it may have been from the nets off of Deas Island.  It did pick up later on and I went 1 for 2 fish hooked.  Ended up with a beauty female that was a solid 4 lbs, bar of silver.  Slow day overall, but they really do just nip at your lure.  Good luck everyone!
