 FN0639-Region 2 - Management Measures to Protect Thompson and Upper Fraser River Coho

The following measures will be implemented to protect Thompson River coho.

Fraser River - Mission to Hope

Effective 00:01 hours September 8, 2005 to 23:59 hours October 7, 2005, you may
not use bait when fishing for salmon on the Fraser River from the CPR Bridge at
Mission, BC upstream to the Highway No.1 Bridge at Hope, BC.  You also may not
fish for coho or sockeye salmon in this area during this period of time. 
Chinook and pink fisheries remain open at current limits.

Looks like we can fish for chinooks and pinks this September when Thompson cohos are going through?
And it suggest the sockeye will be open Sep. 3 to Sep. 7.

Two years ago the pink salmon fishery on the Fraser was opened throughout the entire September. In fact, the closure in late September and early October was canceled due to so many pinks in the river.

I asked the resource manager last night regarding this and she said that she intends to keep the pink fishery open in September as it provides excellent sportfishing opportunities. She also emphasized that anglers need to do whatever they can to avoid intercepting any wild coho and steelhead. If they do, they need to release them in the least harmful manner. Your cooperation will keep the sportfishing opportunities open.
