anybody have anything to say about tunkwa lake?

dead trees, lots of wind.
Fish seem slightly bigger this year, getting a few in the 2 1/2lb range.
there is a daily fishing report section on the resort web page.


did i mention the wind, yes, very windy.

pretty sure Tunkwa means "Big Wind"  at least thats what i was told. Its usually quite windy and so much to the point noone will be out fishing however fishing in the wind can be pretty effective. just let the wind blow you around while you have a say a damsel nymph on a slow sink line and see what happens  or even a chironie. Also if you cant be on the water in the wind you can go to the wind blown shore and cast out into the lake and retrieve your fly towards the shore(yourself), which can be very effective. Mayfly nymphs i have found can be best for this but damsels and dragons also will work.

ya try tying an Olive Damsel nymph on your gear rod and get to trolling. Lots of guys do it there because it works dude.

ford fender with a Snell hook and big fat worm. slow troll so the tip is dancing.

or skunk speckle F4-F5 flat fish, with some wieght to bring it down to about 10-15'.

and my favourite, drag an olive green woolybugger with a #7 sink line on a fly rod, or split shot with you spinning rod.

I strongly recommend buying an affordable fly rod to drag leech patterns around with sinking line, no casting needed.

I will confirm that green damsels and lighter brown and olive buggers worked over the long weekend while i was there most cought were around the 1-2 pound range but i did see the odd 4-5 pound rainbow a couple regulars cought. i was very jealous

caught a few this am.  i was trolling a fly..dad was trolling the hardware.  we both gotta couple in the 1.5 pound range.  nice clean fish!

When the wind blows up on Tunkwa, just leap down to Leighton. Both lake's fish taste like crap unfortunately.

PUMPKIN HEADS!!!!!!!!

Go by a few of them from the store at the resort. The Pupkinhead is the #1 fly there.

Troll them on a Type 1 or III sinking line, or on a spinning rod with a few split shots.

P'Heads work at Leighton also.  Just left that lake this am and scored several hits and a couple of fish on #10's and #12's.

They were my most successful fly over a 5 day trip.
