I so wish I could get out fishing, but two things are a problem.

1.  Water is frozen solid
2. We're on an organized tour. Go! Go! Go!

Every dinner and lunch seems to have a carplike fish of some sort. I have found almost all the fish here to taste quite muddy, like trout taken from a hot lake.  Ick. 

I look forward to being home, and barbequeing some salmon, or having some good fresh Sashimi.

DS, you have just been tasting the products of China's aquaculture of herbivorous minnows. :) They are farmed in ponds, where mulitiple species live and each species occupies a specific water stratum. The practice is sustainable, and damages to the natural waterways are minimal, but the water is awfully muddy.

The muddy taste of fish comes from a secondary metabolite called geosmin produced by a group of bacteria called actinomycetes and also by bluegreen algae. Actinomycetes are very abundant everywhere in soil and water and they are very often the reason to why food like potatoes and fish can taste earthy and woody.

I would say the taste is due to bad fish management...... :-\

I am myself very picky about that particular taste and refuse to eat anymore if I've had a bite which tastes earthy  :-X

Anyway, back to Mexico   ;D

Well, I'm outa here as soon as I gag down a fried egg.  I expect to be AFK until after Easter.  If you want to come for a visit, just show up, remind me who you are, or just say, Fishing with Rod.
