Fun times on the veddar
« on: January 31, 2006, 07:32:35 PM »

so i went out today not quite sure what to expect...........hopeing for the rain to stop. Anywasy when i got to parking lot and got all my stuff out, i realized i forgot my vest :'( :o with everything i need insidel luckily i had a set up already on and decided to try my luck with wut i had on. I walked down to the a my normal spot,a few people already there....took a few casts and bam down goes the drennon..excited i set the hook.nothing going no head shakes. i obviously had a snag and wasn't to impressed with myself seeing how i had no other gear with me...a couple reefs on the rod and everything below the drennon is gone :'( I then walked back to the car and decided if i really wanted to drive all the way home to get my gear or just make that the day for me...i decided to get it. So a 20 min drive home grabbed my gear and went back to the river. I went to another spot of mine i just found from my brother this year. The water looking really good in the spot i decided to use some roe sacks of mine. I started from the top drifting drifting....nothing. Working my way down the spot near the end of the run very close to the shore my drennon goes down. Wondering if it would be another snag i still set the hook. I feel 2 big head shakes and a chrome flash. Soon it is taking line from my reel going into the main river. putting quite a bit of pressure on it i walk down and bring it with me. This goes on for another10 min back and forth. Until i think its ready to come in and when it gets into view it is the biggest steel i have ever seen in person let alone for me. It was a good 30inch long and 15lb plus :o :o :o i was nowthinking this was a dream for it was amazinly huge buck. I am now even more excited than ever when i see no fin....a hatch i soon corral it into a slacker moving piece of water thinking if i should land this. I woulld be giveing the "Master" a  shot for top spot in the contest. As i am about to bring it onto shore it gives me a last try at freedom 2 big head shakes and as that happens i guessi put a bit to much pressure on him and the hook pops out ??? :o :'( I watch as it swims for freedom...heart broken i walk off but still full of adrenaline i work taht spot again to see if it or any of its friends would take a gander at my hook again..but nothing. I walk off pissed off i lost it to a couple spots above. one hit above nothing else though.. I contemplate to myself that this was still a awsome day.

I forgot my vest at home one time last week. But for me it was an hour  each way home not 20 min.  Got back and banged two so it made up for it. ;D

8) Well,
A friend and I were also working the river till about 3:30pm and we didn't get so much as a nibble. Many others we spoke to said some steelies were taken but we say none carrying any...
I guess what I'm trying to say is it's better to catch something and even if it's lost in battle their's a satisfaction or a kinda respect for the fish.

Sounds like you had a nice day in my view...

Good fishing...catfish

I believe I heard about that from Biff!!!  Sorry to hear about that, but welcome aboard.  I think I saw you earlier in the day on Sunday!!  Across the river.  I know the run though, nice to see you hooked one out of there, wish I had have been there to help!! ;D

Oh boy, this sounds familiar.  I had almost the same experience 2 weeks ago, losing my monster hatchery buck as I tried to pull him through a rocky gap into the shore. It was so frustrating to have him so close after a long battle, only to lose him at the last moment. The monster was so big my left hand went limp after that. You have my sympathy.
