Fraser Sockeye
« on: July 15, 2004, 02:27:57 PM »

Anybody hear anything about potential Sockeye openings yet?  A couple weeks ago I read somewhere that they were considering opening mid July.  That's now! Anyone have up-to-date rumors?

I'm happy with that. Take a look at the current fishing methods at Lickman Road. Snagging of Sockeyes is disgusting to watch and the sound of floats ripping the surface as someone is fishing 12 extra feet of line for water they are fishing. You can tell the Fraser is slow when the anglers bring their tactics across the highway.

I am now hearing August 23 as a possible date. All the DFO chatter about sockeye restriction is for areas near the entrance of the Sumas. The exact bars have not been named, but some bars will have no sockeye retention posted. All this, because of the Cultus Lake returns, which go from mid-June to December.

Not sure if Nostro meant July 23 and not Aug 23. Berry's advised this A.M. July 23 is the latest rumour.

lickman road will have undercover dfo officers fishing alongside other fisherman. this is because of all the complaints being registered in the last week and a half...people poaching sockeye...snagging fish. its good to have inside info from friends in the department. :) i hope its not because of all the americans coming up for the weekends......they tend to snub canadian rules and regulations.
