July 19th - A new carp addict
« on: July 19, 2004, 10:37:48 PM »

Well, carp addict population has just gone up by one in the Lower Mainland tonight.

We went out for a couple of hours tonight. Much better than spending a warm night in front of the tube. Instead of just Nina and I, several kids from FishBC also joined us for the night to see why exactly carp fishing is so interesting. ;D We arrived, Floon and a ChickwithStick were already there. Willowbarkus joined us later on too. ;D

No luck for me today, not that many bites either. I was spending more time chatting with others, yep, that's my excuse tonight... Nina on the other hand, had her rod dancing away on the rod holder. The fish did not waste anytime after her bait landed on the bottom each time. No hookups though, pretty frustrating I bet. Kind of like Chrome Mykiss, Trout Slayer and I yesterday, hooking nothing except the one carp I briefly connected. :-\

Time flew by pretty fast, at around 9pm, we heard a tiny reel screaming away. Turned around, Willowbarkus was in action! Her ultralight outfit was being strain to its limit, but Willowbarkus was not about to give up. After a few minutes of tugs, the fish was finally ready to be netted. Nice fish indeed! First one for her, and she's pretty hooked now. ;D

Congrat! ;D

Nice fish congrats!!!

My wife, being Hungarian, is a huge carp fan as it is a big part of her culture.

Does anyone know if any of the local carp is edible?? Or do they live in very polluted areas?

Mrs.casinoJim would love me to bring her some fresh local carp.

Thanks, that really was a blast. I know where I will be heading after dinner for the next little while. :D
Casino Jim, I personally wouldn't eat anything that came out of the slough. Rodney would know more about if these fish are edible or not though.
You are right Rodney, I'm hooked.
Kent is very impressed. Maybe I'll even get him down to give it a try one of these evenings.

Yes, probably not wise to eat the ones in that slough. It's more of a drainage system for farms and since it runs through urban area, not good.

Maybe from some of the lakes, sloughs further towards the Fraser Valley.

How does your wife cook them CJ? ;D

Oh ya, this was yesterday. ;D

Look at Chrome Mykiss' face (red shirt): "What am I doing here...?"

This fishing will be good until october Carole, so there will be many post dinner outings I think. ;D

Fish Assassin I'm not good with measurements but I would say the slough is about 15 feet wide. I don't have a clue how deep it is. The depth would vary at different times because of the tides.

"we we fishing the bottom when a regular came up and set up. he used a glowstick float, with a two foot leader and boilies."

Is it legal to use a glow float?

"
Unlawful to - use a light in any manner to attract fish,
unless the light is submerged and
attached to the fishing line within 1 m of
the hook.
