FISHBOAT CREW PAY DISCOURAGES NEWCOMERS
« on: March 08, 2006, 08:29:41 AM »

Fishboat crews on the East Coast, right, make more on average ($25,300) than their counterparts on the West Coast ($22,600). About 62% of western captains would discourage newcomers from a career in fishing, as opposed to just 40% on the East Coast.

$25,000 to screw up the fishery just ain't worth it. They probably make that much selling smoked chum in bars.
