Vedder March 23rd
« on: March 23, 2006, 01:49:17 PM »

So beep beep beep goes the alarm at 4:30 this morning and I dragged my sorry butt outta bed.. rush around the house trying not to forget anything and run out the door so I can meet up with Merc... 4:45 am Merc is sitting there in his car waiting for me... we load his stuff into my truck and make a beeline for Timmies!!!!  I need my morning coffee!!!!!! so we hit the road and sp[end the next 45 mnutes talking about the meaning of life and before we know it we are at the river.... we get all our gear and lock up the truck.. I look down at the ground and what do you know there is a shiny toonie just sitting there waiting to be picked up... wow I think to myself this must be a sign!!!!!  what good luck I am gonna be into fish like crazy!!! :o :o

We get down to the river and start heading downstream to out starting pool and what do you know I find a lil ziplock bag with some brand new  dinkfloats ;D ;D;D
talk about lucky!!!!! :o ;D it is crazy how many people are already at the flow seeing that it is at this point still only 5:45 in the morning.. doesn't anyone sleep?? or work for that matter!!! I start fishing middle of the pool and Merc heads to the top... first cast and that bugger Merc is into a fish and then seconds later he is standing there wondering where the fish went lol :o  I can't say anything because an hour later I still haven't had a hit... I move to the top of the pool just as and older gent is battling a steelie he has hit in the rapids.... nice fish... we watch as a few more are taken....

I am fishing some perfect water , nice colour nice flow... it is a nice lil rapids that flow into a larger section of the pool.. I think to myself there has to be some fish in there... I flog away with no results... Merc decides to try a pink worm and wouldn't you know it a few casts later and he is into another fish.... :o :o  wow I can't get nuttin and here he is werkin on his second....  gets it in close to shore trying to see if it is table fare or not and snap!!!!!!  bye bye steelie!!  :'( :'(  ROOKIE!!!!!!!

hehehe ;D ;D ;D  it is now around 11 am and I have to get back to nvan to open my store so thats it for our day of fishing.. short and sweet.. we drove by Keith Wilson on the way home.... man  have you seen how many people and there coffe grinders are there????? there is barely any water but there sure are alot of lines in the water.. I can't believe any fish make it through that!!!! I thought LIckman was bad  :o

so thats it for my report... I guess all that luck I had in the morning ran out when it came to fishing  ::) oh yeah and by the way I lost my beloved Canuck Drennen this morning  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(  I hope it goes to a good home, maybe one of you guys will find it.......I took one pic of Merc fighting a fish.. but no hero shots today.... the water is low and it is clear but it does have a lil colour to it right now
happy fishin!!!

cheers

Sounds like you still had a good day despite no hook ups.

yeah it was awesome!!! nice weather and it is always gorgeous up there...   I have to admit I start to wonder what I am doing wrong sometimes... steelheading for me can become quite frustrating after a while... I know I am doing everything the right way... I figure I need some luck is all ::)

Well Rick, luck always helps!!  But just keep with it and it will turn around for you!!  I went 35 trips without hooking one a few years back, but you get one then they seem to come in bunches!!

I guess I should say something to defend myself...

Thickrick maintained his perfect catch record today of 0 fer 0. That's 100%!

I was hoping it was going to be raining but nope, it turned sunny instead. Water did have a little color to it, but not much. First fish of the day was on procured shrimp. Watched my float go down rather slowly so I was thinking I had touched bottom or snagged something. Lifted the rod tip and my float starts moving from side to side and then *POP* off goes the fish. Oh well, it was still really early. Tried a bunch of different things today, and then went back to the pink snake for fish number two. As I was fighting the fish, Thickrick's asking me, "Where's your camera? I'll get a pic!" So, I'm trying to hand him my camera in my left breast pocket of my jacket. Can't get it so Thickrick reaches in for it. I think he copped a cheap feel while he was at it!  I didn't know this was "Brokeback Vedder River!  Anyways, he gets it out, then can't figure out how to turn it on (fortunately he has an understanding girlfriend!  ), so I had to show him. Meanwhile, I'm trying to fight a fish! He takes a picture and it looks like this:

But: the hero shots come after the fish is landed! I remember once complaining about not having someone around to take pictures of the fish I caught. Well I changed my mind! Just kidding, Thickrick. You can be the photographer anytime! Anyways, the fish pops off and that's it for the rest of the day for myself. Good thing I'm a rookie otherwise I wouldn't have any convenient excuses for not landing any fish today! I think the water looks like it's come up a bit but a friend of mine said it's come down again, so take your pick on who you want to believe. Good day to get away for a few hours. Only managed to lose one hook on a tree stump. Another rookie goof up, I guess. BTW Thickrick, how did you lose your Drennan again?

It's one of those things, as soon as your mind thiks "frying pan" the fish will fall off, control your thought process and you will land the fish. Good report anyhow.
