Apr 1 lower Vedder
« on: April 02, 2006, 09:46:16 AM »

Domestic duties prevailed in the am so was unable to hit the river til 1:30 pm. Was raining hard all the way out from Langley where I live. On arrival water was still clear and very cold as it seems snow is falling higher up and the runoff  is not yet under way. There was just enough colour to provide camoflage to the fish but light leaders still seem to be the ticket.Levels low still and this seems to be the reason why so many fish have stayed in the lower and mid sections of the river.
Light numbers of anglers despite the first day of new licenses.Other years I fished on this day and saw hardly anyone.Fished at KWB  for awhile.Ten minutes in and the floats buried and charges upstream before I even get to set the hook! The game is on.This fish roared out to the fast water mid river then went airborn thats wen I could see it was large bright fish about 14 lbs.It then screamed straight back at me and I thought once it came almost to me feet I would never have a shot at it once I retrieved all the slack. But someone up there was smiling one me and the hookset held.I had to take the fish down the bar a long way to tire him and in the PRC         ess he went aeriel two more times.A beautiful chrome  wild buck released unharmed after a quick snap and help from another angler,
I was shaking afterward.I thought how fortunate we all are to have an experience like this available to us Single egg imitation on light range wool. After about five I moved up river to one of the most popular runs this year. Eight other anglers were there just about as light as I have seen it.One fellow caught and released a wild hen then nothing till sunset.Fish started to move and jump just about everwhere around us I have never seen so much steehead activity. But no takers.Lots of fry were jumping as well and perhaps they were chasing them.A spinner may have been the ticket here.Oh well thats why the call it fishing not catching!

Hey Riverman,
It was enjoyable fishing with you on Sat. evening.
Went back to the same spot Sunday. Released 2 wild steelies. :) Same water conditions. I was all by myself there from 4-6pm :) :). No fish jumping like the day before.
