Pre-season indicators are used in the management of Fraser River eulachon. These indicators are:
- the Fraser River egg and larvae survey from previous years;
- the biomass of eulachon offshore of the West Coast of Vancouver Island; and
- the current year Columbia River eulachon return.
The 2006 Fraser River eulachon pre-season indicators all indicate a downward trend which may imply a conservation concern. Due to this concern, there will be no Fraser River recreational eulachon fishery in 2006.
