Upcoming salmon fry releases in spring 2006

Here are a series of salmon fry release festivals that will take place in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley in the next few weeks. The events are all free, hope this is useful for some readers.


Ambush Education on Maple Creek!

Fingerling Festival

Noons Creek Hatchery, 300 Ioco Road, Port Moody

Details
Fun for all ages. We need your help to release about 35,000 chum salmon fry into Noons Creek into Noons Creek. Come release some fry and watch them swim towards the ocean! There will be crafts, food, face painting and games for children. It is a fun event for all ages. We will be raffling off a signed Robert Bateman Print and many other interesting goodies donated by local companies. There will be interesting, informative and interactive displays showcasing streamkeeper groups, naturalists and other organizations such as OWL that work towards preserving and protecting our natural heritage. We are having a used book sale that will benefit our education and outreach programs. Donations of used books are welcome. Weather permitting there will be daffodil and tulip bulbs for sale Donated by the City of Port Moody. Bring your family and friends for a fun, exciting learning experience. In Fall 2004, both chum and coho salmon returned to spawn in the upper reaches of Stoney Creek for the first time in 50 years, and in Fall 2005, pinks were observed for the first time. Come and celebrate this special event with us! We hope you will join your fellow citizens at our open house to celebrate our natural environment and the wild Pacific salmon. We invite you to be among the first to release some young salmon starting at 11 am or you may enjoy the many displays and activities during the day. More information...
